Carolyn Evans Hammond

Carolyn Evans Hammond is a long-standing wine critic. Each week, Carolyn contributes a wine column to the Toronto Star (syndicated) and regularly conducts private tastings in person and virtually. She hosts The Wine Find Talks on YouTube and The Wine Find travel TV show on ROKU on the Access Luxury channel. As a seasoned wine educator, judge and media personality with 20+ years of journalism experience,

Carolyn believes living well doesn't have to be pricy or pretentious. It just takes a little know-how -- and maybe a corkscrew. And she's on a mission to find you your next great wine.

Masterclass Sessions

During the Portfolio Tasting, six 30-minute private Masterclass Sessions will take place, covering a range of topics meant to pique your interest and thirst.

Masterclasses present an opportunity for education, discovery and excitement for the senses. Tasting with a certified sommelier or winery owner we open rare bottles and open your eyes to new taste possibilities.

A General Admission ticket is necessary to access the event, and a Masterclass ticket can be purchased as an addition.
Masterclass Line-up
7:00 PM - Travel the World of White Wines, Blind. Five perfectly chilled white wines sit in front of you. Only your Somm guide knows which comes from where? Or does she? In this spirited Masterclass we will work through a wide range of styles and varietals together to try to name that region and wine!
7:00 PM - Elevate Your Cocktails with Classic Bartender Hacks. Join head bartender Sasha Seigal from Toronto's celebrated La Banane in this hands-on demonstration of the 3-2-4 rule of mixology. This masterclass, using the vermouth and spirits in house, will take you well beyond G+Ts. Learn how to apply Sasha's simple concepts to a wide range of base spirits and mixers for an unlimited level of cocktail applications.
8:00 PM - The Kingdom of Vermouth: Taste the rare library vermouths of Giulio Cocchi. Widely regarded as Italy's top trending fortified houses, Cocchi expertly crafts the Veraria Realse Riserva Vermouth, Doppo Theatro Vermouth Amaro, Extra Dry Piedmontese Dry White Vermouth and the resurrected original formula of Giulio Cocchi's Barolo Chinato. Hosted by Cocchi Principal Giorgio Bava, this is a Masterclass for Maestros.
8:00 PM - Cutting Edge Wines: What's Old is New Again. Taste the wine styles you've heard of but never understood. Pet Nat, Amphorae-aged, Natural, Governo, and Orange wines come into clear focus in this Masterclass.
9:00 PM - Travel the World of Red Wines, Blind. Taste five wines from five regions completely blind. The fun will ensue when we start trying to name the region, style and varietal. Right or wrong, our Somm guide will educate you on how to spot the nuance of the vino.
9:00 PM - 700 Years in the Making. Founded in 1460, Valdespino is the oldest sherry house in the world. To make sherries aged over 70 years such as their Palo Cortado or Moscatelle Tonneles requires a level of patience reserved for producers who have nothing left to prove. Taste four sherries rated 98-100 points by Robert Parker in this very rare and exclusive event.
